59722. The Montana
State Prison is located in the Deer Lodge
valley about 3.5 miles west of Deer Lodge.
The institution is designated to maintain a
population of 1300 adult male offenders and
there are about 600 Montana State employees
of which over 300 are uniformed staff. The
Montana State Prison is managed by a warden,
deputy warden and two associate wardens.
The prison has three
compounds which are contained within a 68
acre double fenced perimeter. Outside the
fenced perimeter is an eighty bed work dorm
that houses minimum custody inmates that
work on the 35,000 acre prison ranch
operated by Montana Correctional
Enterprises. |
