Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming 82190
Yellowstone National Park is America's first
national park and was established in 1872.
Located in Montana, Idaho, and Wyoming it is
home to a large variety of wildlife
including bison, elk, moose, wolves, black
and grizzly bears. You will also likely see
swans and Bald eagle among the many birds in
the park. Within Yellowstone National Park
are Old Faithful and a collection of the
world's most extraordinary geysers and hot
springs, and the Grand Canyon of the
Yellowstone River is a sure pleasure to
view. |
The following information is from the
Yellowstone National Park web site at:
http://www.nps.gov/yell/index.htm - Elk
(Cervus elaphus) are the most abundant large
mammal found in Yellowstone; paleontological
evidence confirms their continuous presence
for at least 1,000 years. More than 30,000
elk from 7-8 different herds summer in
Yellowstone and approximately 15,000 to
22,000 winter in the park. The subspecies of
elk that lives here are found from Arizona
to northern Canada along the Rocky Mountain
chain. The Big Horn Sheep are all most tame
and the herds are frequent along the
Northern edge of the park. |
